言歸正傳,斯開島船歌敘述的是查理王子於1746年的庫洛登戰役被打敗後,從外赫布里底群島的尤伊斯特島逃到内赫布里底群島的最大島-斯開島的故事.故事中記錄著忠心漁民們,不畏惡劣的天氣與海象,幫助王子渡過相隔遙遠的2個島之間的驚滔駭浪的過程.
本曲真的是太老了,老到作曲者不可考,作詞者為Harold Boulton爵士於1870~年間所填,於1884年出版.
